Moonflower – Morning Glory

Moonflower – Morning Glory

While on a hike at the Pichhetti Ranch preserve we saw the Morning Glory not far away from the copa de oro or Californian Poppy. The exact opposite of each other. One opens when the sun goes down, while the other when the sun comes up. If it is cloudy and cold in the day, one stays open, while the other shuts. One takes the color of the sun and the other of the moon. Beautiful!

I am not sure right now if this is the Pacific Bindweed or Moonflower. I have now come to understand there are differences between Moonflower, Morning Glory, Moon Cup and Pacific Bindweed. That said, this post is about the Poem and the sentiment of Morning Glory.

Morning Glory

Hide and seek,

I play with copa de oro,

grey skies my friend,

darkness still so,

the sun, moon, cloud,

the rain and the cold,

push our buttons,

but still the night is mine,

the bright day is yours,

I win still in your cloudy day,

but we are friends,

separated by night and day,

meeting at day-break and sunset,

yet again we play.
